Rudyard Kipling

This drawing was intended (but never used) for a book entitled Kipling: The Complete Verse. On the back of the drawing were notes from M M Kaye to her publisher:

"This is part stuck on with an invisible mount! – 6 of them to be precise.  Meaning to give you an idea of how it would look in a sea of yellow.  (Should be much smaller of course, in proportion to printing – and size of book).  I don’t think yellow shows the name up enough, now I see it on this bit of card. Green probably better – or white - ?

I like this pic: of R.K.  I have made him smile, as most of the pics: of him are pretty dour.  I also feel it is probably like him!"
